Our itinerary starts in Prague and ends in Budapest (not counting the trip from Maryland to Prague and return from Budapest.) With us will be four good friends, Mary and George Doub and Harry and Kathleen Fulton. We will be away for about a week and a half, so by our usual standards this is a short trip.
We start with a few days in Prague, where we spent a few days several years ago, and where a famous 17th century relative on my mother's side came from. That would be Augustine Herman, who, in exchange for his producing the first reliable map of the US eastern mid-atlantic coast, was awarded a large land grant on Maryland's eastern shore called Bohemia Manor after the part of Czech Republic he came from. My sister Judith Dinatale's maiden middle name is Herman, after Augustine Herman.
Then we van to the Danube at Vilshofen, where we board a river boat, the Amasonata, for a week of touring towns along the way to our destination, Budapest, one of my favorite cities. We have two days there.
Long flight today in two legs: BWI to London, then London to Prague. I plan to post pictures as available.
Here's Herman's map:
